Where breastfeeding families find support in Bakersfield.

Since 2014, breastfeeding families have come to us from as early as the day after they are discharged from the hospital.  We provide assistance, information, clinical care, assistance with pumping and expressing milk, low or excessive milk production, referrals, and more.

Our Mission: To provide accessible, high-quality lactation care, support, and education in a welcoming environment

We Fulfill Our Vision and Mission by: 

    • Offering evidence-based lactation help in multiple ways - in-person, virtually, and by text/phone

    • Making our services free to everyone

    • Serving every person who reaches out to us for help with the level of lactation care and support they need, including making appropriate referrals for additional types of health care

    • Respecting every individual’s own breastfeeding goals and cultural needs

    • Educating our community about the importance of breastfeeding using social media and by forging partnerships with other service-based organizations

 

Help with questions about milk production, including milk expression, pumping, storage of expressed milk, increasing or decreasing production, maintaining production while separated from baby such as for school or work, donating milk to the milk bank for use by preterm and other vulnerable infants, and more

At Baby Café you can:

  • Get latch help

  • Weight your baby

  • Learn how to make all the milk your baby needs

  • Get help with pumping

  • Make a plan for starting solids

  • Get support with nighttime parenting

  • Have your baby’s tongue checked to make sure it functions properly for feeding

  • Get help with engorgement, plugged ducts, and nipple blebs

  • Learn how to break out of the cycle of mastitis

  • Make sure you’re using the right pump flange size
