WELCOME
Baby Café Bakersfield
Welcome to Baby Cafe Bakersfield! During this time of heightened awareness about infectious diseases like COVID-19 (the coronavirus strain you are hearing about on the news), as well as the 2 confirmed strains of influenza which have been diagnosed in Kern County, we are committed to preserving the public health by encouraging you and supporting you to continue breastfeeding as much as possible and to give your baby your own milk as much as possible. Babies are protected primarily through breast milk, even if you or they have been exposed to a virus or other infectious disease, and stopping breastfeeding or withholding your milk can make them more susceptible to becoming ill. The bottom line: don’t stop breastfeeding or feeding your own milk unless you are told by your physician to do so (and those would be rare and unusual circumstances.)
As of March 12, 2020, we have suspended our in-person drop-in sessions as a protective measure for the public’s health and well-being. We have arranged for a way that you can talk to one of our staff on the phone or through a brief video consult. Please call (661)666-4901 to reach a lactation consultant. Use the link below if you would like to schedule a brief video consult. While there is no fee, we are asking that you make a voluntary donation to Baby Cafe Bakersfield by visiting our Donate page. The MilkNotes system, which we use to protect the confidentiality of your private health information and host your video consult, has a fee for us and we are asking for your donation to help cover those costs. You can make an appointment whether or not you make a donation.
Thank you for understanding. We have made this decision to protect you and our staff, and we look forward to seeing you in person after this public health threat has subsided.
