Baby Café Bakersfield Awarded IBCLC Care Award
We are extremely proud to announce that Baby Café Bakersfield has again been awarded the prestigious IBCLC Care Award by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
This global award recognizes Baby Café Bakersfield for its excellence in staffing International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and for conducting activities that demonstrate promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding.
We are especially pleased that this award was given based on our partnership with California Advanced Lactation Institute , a local provider of professional lactation education. Through this partnership, interns who have been didactically trained in the management of human lactation are partnered with IBCLC mentors in the Baby Café Bakersfield setting. There, they learn and practice clinical lactation care skills under the supervision of their mentors, and their experience provides them a solid and broad foundation in lactation care throughout the entire spectrum of lactation, from pregnancy through natural weaning. With this clinical experience, the interns are preparing to sit for board certification as IBCLCs.
As explained by the Director of Baby Café Bakersfield, Christine Staricka, BS, IBCLC, RLC, CCE, “Our rural health community in Kern County has a great need for access to clinical lactation care from IBCLCs as well as opportunities to train future IBCLCs. Our partnership with California Advanced Lactation Institute ensures that the next generation of lactation care providers is being mentored by practicing IBCLCs in a setting where families receive high-quality lactation care. Everybody wins: local families receive the lactation care they need to meet their own breastfeeding goals, and the community can rest assured that well-trained lactation care providers will be living and working here.”
